Paddy procurement is delayed for 10 days by the Central government just one day before the earlier announced date of October 1, 2021. This delay was substantial and was taxing on farmers from Haryana and Punjab who had already harvested and threshed their crops and were camping in mandis with their produce in the hope for procurement to begin. The government also fixed a procurement quota of 25 quintal per acre.
