SKM & farmer organisations meeting

SKM held two-day-long meetings with farmer organisations in Lucknow and 250-

300 delegates from 85 organisations attended the meeting. The meeting declared establishing an 85-member state unit of the SKM in UP to take ahead the Mission UP and Uttarakhand. This was the first such state branch of the national SKM which was formed after the decision taken at its national convention held last month. DP Singh, Tejinder Virk, and Harnam Singh Verma presided over the meeting and will co-ordinate the state unit. The meeting decided to hold discussions with trade unions, students, women, youth, Dalit, Adivasi, and other mass organizations at the district level on September 17 to make the September 27 Bharat Bandh a grand success. The front is to intensify the struggle on issues of sugarcane prices, clearance of dues, insurance, loan waiver, electricity prices, and crop damage by stray animals. It was decided to boycott the events held by the BJP leaders by showing black flags and toll plazas will be freed. A decision was taken to hold big rallies at 18 mandals (administrative divisions) and all district headquarters of the state under the banner of the state SKM. The front resolved to fight against the communal and caste polarization in the state.
